Tips for Creepypasta Reader Inserts
Okay, at long last I am publishing my list of tips for writing creepypasta reader inserts—and honestly, a bit of writing in general. I've been working on this list for a while now (2019 Note: I originally uploaded this to Sta.sh on January 2015, what the hell!!), and have been adding and removing various tips and tricks. Be warned, this will be pretty long and rough at points since I've been editing it a LOT over the years, and some of these are more nitpicking than tips. However, some of this will actually apply to writing in general, so hopefully you'll find it helpful even beyond that!

“Well, here it is. What do you think?”
“Well, I guess it’s better than nothing.”
The sedan’s appearance did not conceal its age as the camera panned over it, specks of dirt and dust marring the tinted windows and body. Chips in the paint littered its body almost as numerous as the stars in the sky, but they added no glamour or brilliance to the faded teal paint like how glistening stars lit the night. If anything, they did the opposite, emphasizing all of the neglect that the car endured over the years.
Though presently I held no disdain towards the vehicle, my past self

“You... you want to split up?”
I stared at Tim in shock, slowly absorbing his statement. Unfazed by my reaction, Tim just shrugged and nodded, folding his arms as he spoke. “Yeah. Look, I’ve been thinking for a while now, and we keep running out of leads. All we have are those memory cards, but at this point I’m pretty sure we won’t find anything else on them. No matter how I look at it we should’ve found something by now, so I think we hid the actually important ones somewhere else.”
So he figured that out too, I thought grimly, thinking of the cards still in my poc

Red, green, olive, crimson, pine, scarlet... So many shades of red and green seemed to adorn the streets lately. Strings of colorful lights draped almost every house, inflatable bearded men in jolly red suits smiling at passerbies with gloved hand raised in a warm greeting as they stood next to simple snowmen dressed in scarves and hats. Pine trees and candelabras could be seen in windows of houses, warm fires no doubt crackling in the fireplaces as the aroma of fresh hot chocolate drifted from kitchens.
Sappy as it sounds, this time of year always makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Having spent most of my life living in th

[13:34] Tim is walking through woods. The Red Tower comes into sight.
[13:58] Tim: “Fucking finally...”
Tim jogs over and starts walking around the building. The camera zooms in on the graffiti on the walls.
[14:23] Tim: “Heh... Glad to see teenagers still like to hang out at park...s...”
Tim trails off. The phone falls to ground and lands with the camera face-down, the screen going dark.
[14:31] Tim: “...No, no, no, this... this can’t be... this...”
Tim falls silent. Nothing is heard in the background.
[15:43] Tim picks up the phone and runs.

Towards the very end of Marble Hornets, Tim and Jay got their hands on an address that led them to a college. Only one video actually showing the college was published online, Entry 79. The next entry—Entry 80—was Tim’s little speech about how everyone died, meaning Jay almost definitely died there.
And now Tim and I were on our way there ourselves in search of our next clue.
“Where’s Alex? Where’re you keeping him?“
I frowned slightly as I watched the video of Jay running up a set of stairs, his voice audible off screen. To help refresh my memory about the college

To upload or not to upload—that seemed to be the latest question.
“To be honest, Jay never did give me a good reason about why he uploaded all those videos online,” Tim commented as we sat as our laptops watching more footage. “I mean, I can kind of get why he did it at first, but as it went on, well... It kinda seems like the only point was to keep the ‘fans’ updated on everything that was going on.”
“Well, it was a good way to keep tabs on everyone,” I remarked, pausing the video I was watching. “Easy way to archive everything and make sure you don’t

When morning rolled around, Tim didn’t bother relocating his laptop to my room. Shortly after I woke up, I heard a knock on the door and opened it to see him standing there with a plastic bag filled with memory cards, but rather than that my attention instead instantly focused on his face. Heavy bags hung under his brown eyes, his features looking heavily drawn and worn with a sort of empty, tired expression.
“Are you okay?” I asked, immediately concerned. “You look awful...” He just shrugged, his expression barely changing.
“Didn’t sleep that well,” he muttered. ̶

You lie on your bed, huddled under the covers with a fresh book from the library. Your eyes feel somewhat droopy but you are reluctant to put it down, the story too enticing to pause so you can sleep. It’s nearing the end anyway, you reason silently; not even thirty pages to go. Might as well finish it now.
Your eyes skim over the paragraphs, fighting to stay awake.
“She stares at him furiously, blinking back tears as she wills herself not to cry, to show The terror he so deeply craves.”
You pause. “To show The terror”? You look back, thinking you’d spotted a minor capital
